Captain Story: I started in eighth grade as a deckhand. And promptly fell overboard on the FIRST day, wondered how I’d get home – they gave me dry clothes and sent me back aboard. It was a family business. I was also the Junior Commodore of a yacht club down the Cape. Sailed competitively, won New England championship in a BeetleCat, when I was seventeen. Since I knew how to sail I figured running a ferry boat could not be that more difficult – and I got PAID. That was forty years ago!

Captain Story: After retiring from the Navy, a couple of buddies and I decided to buy a sailboat and sail around the world. After reaching Hawaii, homesick for New England, I returned to Massachusetts operating a small passenger vessel in and around the Merrimac River serving the Lowell community. Shortly thereafter an opportunity emerged with Mass Bay Lines and I jumped on it- that was 29 years ago and I’ve never looked back.

Captain Story: My first command was at age 13, a 16’ runabout. Started sailing in my early 20’s drawn in by the mystique of the sea and began working traditional sailing vessels from yawls and schooners to square rigged vessels including the ship rigged HMS Bounty. Delivered vessels from St. Thomas, USVI and Bermuda on to Boston including several up and down the east coast. In 2005/2006 my wife and I sailed from Boston to Key West with a dog and two cats as crew. Managed and operated two square rigged vessels for eight years. Purchased the 72’ Tall Ship/Pirate Ship Formidable in 2010 now sailing under the Mass Bay Lines banner as Massachusetts only operational Class-A Tall Ship.
